Pisang Peak Climbing & Annapurna Circuit
Trip Facts
Overview
Pisang Peak is a popular trekking peak located in the Annapurna region of Nepal. It’s a part of the larger Annapurna Circuit trek and offers a relatively accessible and rewarding climbing experience for trekkers with some mountaineering experience. Here’s some information about Pisang Peak climbing:
Location: Pisang Peak is situated in the Manang District of Nepal, in the Annapurna Conservation Area. It stands at an elevation of 6,091 meters (19,983 feet) above sea level.
Permits: Climbing Pisang Peak requires obtaining necessary permits. You’ll need an Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and a TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System) card, which are required for the Annapurna Circuit trek as well. In addition to these permits, you’ll need a climbing permit for Pisang Peak, which can be obtained through a registered trekking agency.
Difficulty: Pisang Peak is considered a relatively easy trekking peak, but it does require some basic mountaineering skills. Climbers should be comfortable with using crampons, ice axe, ropes, and have a good understanding of glacier travel.
Duration: The duration of the Pisang Peak climbing expedition typically ranges from 17 to 21 days, depending on the specific itinerary chosen. This includes both the trek to the base camp and the climbing period.
Best Time to Climb: The best time to attempt Pisang Peak is during the pre-monsoon (spring) season, which is from April to May, or the post-monsoon (autumn) season, which is from September to November. These months offer stable weather and clear skies for climbing.
Itinerary: The typical itinerary involves starting from Kathmandu and trekking through the Annapurna Circuit to reach Pisang Village. From there, you’ll head to Pisang Base Camp and High Camp before making your summit attempt. After reaching the summit, you’ll retrace your steps back to Pisang Village and continue with the Annapurna Circuit trek or take an alternate route.
